Hey guys,
So i was out in Bozeman, MT in 2010 for a spring break road trip to Big Sky (well really, Moonlight basin if you know the area prior to Big Sky owning it). I took the above photo of that car. I was looking through my old photos this morning and decided to post that one to instagram. A random person asked me if i knew what that car was, and i realized I hadn’t a clue. Maybe you guys know?
He told me if I’m ever back there to photograph it from different angles to get a better view of it. I would just like to redo how i took that one. The content was great, the framing left a lot to be desired. Come to think of it, I may have other angles of it, but I’d have to go digging through old computers to find it.

Somebody’s old hotrod, totally custom probably made in the 60's.

Yea, the headlights and bumpers look vaguely like Edsel lights and grill. The 30s grill shell is super familiar, but I can’t place it.
It’s a welded mishmash hotrod.

The headlights are off a third generation Continental, the pickup they’ve been grafted onto I do recognize, but I can’t remember which it is
Edit: The Chrysler looks more likely

It’s a mashup. Lights and fenders probably came from a mid-60s Chrysler 300 like this:

1938 ford truck ? kinda hard to see anything else and its obviously been customized.

It’s a 1951 Prinz-Subo Rattan

The headlights and turn signals are from a 1962 Chrysler 300.

Probably based on a 1938-39 Ford truck, but it could be on a different chassis.

That explains why a long time ago i remember thinking it was a Ford

Damn the 300's looked good back then. I didn’t even know those were a thing. And yes to the headlights!

‘38 Ford Pickup with ‘61 Chrysler lights?

was that the car made out of wicker?

1938/39 Ford Pickup based on top of cab and the grille, headlights are 61 Chrysler, I have no clue on the bumpers, they are 4 of the same thing though, but without knowing if they have been shortened I cant really guess. I cant think of anything though with that special ridge. the turn signals I think are 58 mercury tail lights.

yeah, although later production cars had grass reinforcements

oh yeah....from what I remember the lawn bag restraint system was a huge leap forward in safety.

too bad that part never went into production though (Nader sued them out of business), so only the frame and floorboards has the grass, and even then, only on a few late-run 54's :(

My favorite was the 57 the high carbon pencil shaving bushings reduced frictions and made for a nice ride. The snow globe headlights are beautiful and a bonus.

And of course the feds banned that shit right afterwards, and that was the end for those cars. Made Lotus seem like tanks! But yeah, those sno globes were fuckin awesome, just dazzling with the high beams!
![]() 03/11/2016 at 22:20 |

They always do that stupid feds. Oh word the high beams were like looking into the face of a brand new baby. Even when headlights are off its just classic design.

the car has weird angles, or the photo has weird angles?

And the rest looks like a 38 Ford
